Mainz Media Forum: The Collapse of Media Separation?

At one point in history, media formats could be neatly segregated into distinct categories: newspapers, radio and television broadcasters, magazine publishers, cable television, etc. Today, with the emergence of the Internet, media formats are quickly and dramatically converging. Newspapers now publish print and online editions. Radio and television broadcasters stream over the Web. As a result, traditional distinctions between the various types of media are collapsing and leading to new definitions of media, and new approaches. In this symposium, we explore the enormous political, social and governmental implications of this convergence. We are looking forward to discuss these questions, present difficulties, expected developments, and possible future solutions with media experts from the USA and Australia.

Hinweis: Aufgrund der Vulkanaschewolke konnte Professor Weaver leider nicht an der Veranstaltung teilnehmen. Dafür ist es uns gelungen, Dr. Normann Witzleb kurzfristig für das Podium zu gewinnen. Die Veranstaltung befasste sich entsprechend der geänderten Besetzung vor allem mit dem australischen Medienrecht und rechtsvergleichenden Betrachtungen zur deutschen Medienordnung.
